The Center for Nanoscale Science provides the opportunity (with a stipend) for middle and high school science teachers to participate in frontier physics and materials research or educational projects at a major research facility. Summer projects are drawn from current research in condensed matter and material science. In addition, approximately half of the participants' time is to be used to develop curriculum from their research experience. To gain a greater understanding of the way research is used to solve problems and to become familiar with material sciences, laboratory procedures, and experiment development, many of the teachers are teamed with a research group within the MRSEC to participate in a research project and develop classroom curriculum.
