What's In the News
The Center for Nanoscale Science has partnered with Penn State’s PBS affiliate WPSX-TV to develop and coproduce science shows for its nationally renowned multimedia show What's In the News. This Emmy award-winning multimedia instructional television series uses current events and their impact on society as a springboard for providing social studies curriculum. Weekly 15-minute television programs are combined with computer-based resources and print materials to provide a comprehensive and challenging instructional tool. The show and online supporting materials are utilized in 4th to 7th grade classrooms in 28 states with a potential audience of 5.7 million students. In addition to co-producing four shows on nanotechnology and materials-based topics, we have also provided web based information, inquiry based activities and web movies featuring Center for Nanoscale Science graduate students to support these shows.
