Jon-Paul Maria awarded Paul F. Robertson Award for EMS Breakthrough of the Year

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) recognized exceptional students and faculty for their academic excellence, service and leadership during its annual Wilson Awards Celebration, held on March 30. The Wilson Awards are named in honor of Matthew and Anne Wilson, major benefactors of the college.

Duanchen Zhang named Earth and Mineral Sciences fall 2024 student marshal

MRSEC undergraduate researcher, Duanchen Zhang works with Dr. Josh Robinson. He has been selected to represent Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as the student marshal for the college’s fall 2024 commencement.
Zhang will graduate summa cum laude with a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average, earning a bachelor of science degree in materials science and engineering. He selected Joshua Robinson, professor of materials science and engineering, as his faculty marshal.

Alex Vera recognized for helping to establish EMS graduate engagement network

Alex Vera, a recent MRSEC graduate from Materials Science and engineering, and Cierra Chandler, a computational material science researcher in her final year, dove into the survey data, talked with fellow grad students across the college and drew upon their own experiences to determine that a graduate student engagement program would fill a need.
