UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State's College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) recognized exceptional students and faculty for their academic excellence, service and leadership during its annual Wilson Awards Celebration, held on March 30. The Wilson Awards are named in honor of Matthew and Anne Wilson, major benefactors of the college.
Dr. Zhiqiang Mao, professor of physics, of material science and engineering and of chemistry, was elected AAAS Fellow for outstanding contributions to the discovery and crystal growth of novel quantum materials, and for advancing the field of superconductivity.
MRSEC undergraduate researcher, Duanchen Zhang works with Dr. Josh Robinson. He has been selected to represent Penn State’s College of Earth and Mineral Sciences as the student marshal for the college’s fall 2024 commencement.
Zhang will graduate summa cum laude with a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average, earning a bachelor of science degree in materials science and engineering. He selected Joshua Robinson, professor of materials science and engineering, as his faculty marshal.
